The Huron County Museum requires a Municipal Records Cataloguing Assistant (Summer Student)
The Municipal Records Cataloguing Assistant will work to inventory, update catalogue records, and create finding aids for documents in the Huron County Museum’s archival collection. The student will work to effectively and safely re-house portions of the archival collection at the Huron County Museum using proper conservation and archival standards. The student will also provide visitor services at the Museum.
This is a Young Canada Works in Heritage Institutions programme. You must be 16 to 30 years of age, returning to school in the fall, eligible to work in Canada, and registered with the YCW candidate inventory.
Qualifications:
Post-secondary student with interest in Canadian heritage and culture and an enthusiasm to promote it to visitors, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, excellent computer skills, and excellent attention to detail.
The Huron County Museum is located in the original Old Central School, erected in 1859 in Goderich, Ontario. In 1895, County Council decided to improve the physical plant of the Museum and four years later a brand new additional was opened, including specialized archival storage and a Reading Room. Today, the Huron County Museum consists of over 25,000 sq. feet of gallery and visitor support space and an additional 15,000 sq. feet of collections storage and maintenance space.
Goderich, Ontario is located on the shore of Lake Huron and has a variety of walking trails, parks, beaches, rich architectural history, and numerous festivals and events that take place in the spring and summer months, including The Goderich Celtic Festival and the Festival of Arts and Crafts.
