Eptek Art & Culture Centre on the Summerside Waterfront requires two (2) Senior Guides from May 28 to September 8, 2017

Eptek Art & Culture Centre is an exhibition facility featuring visual art, fine craft, history, culture, science, etc. This summer’s exhibition will be on the topic of art by PEI’s comicbook artists.

The Senior Guides will lead the team of guides who provide interpretation to visitors of the summer exhibition. In addition to the general duties of a senior guide related to greeting the public, providing information, collecting admission, light housekeeping, monitoring the gallery, and covering the gift shop, the Senior Guides will also be responsible for assisting with staff and demonstration scheduling, exhibition installation, and research.

The successful candidate will be mature with strong inter-personal skills. They must be comfortable working with the public, outgoing, and courteous. College or university students with an interest in visual arts and/or history would be preferred. They must be flexible with regard to work schedules since the Centre is open daily in the summer period. The student should have intermediate French language skills. In addition, the candidates must be comfortable taking the role of team leader and other responsibilities. They must be able to motivate their peers and take responsibility for directing other team members.

Some university education is required. Basic computer skills are required for word processing and spreadsheets. Employment equity practices are followed under the provincial and federal guidelines. All candidates must meet Young Canada Works (YCW) eligibility requirements and be registered online with YCW. Compensation is $12.50 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.

Summerside is Prince Edward Island's second largest community with a population of approximately 15,000. It is located on the south side of the Island and is the gateway to the western third of the province, the beginning of the North Cape Coastal Drive for tourists. Summerside is the commercial centre for this part of the province and is only 20 minutes from the Confederation Bridge and 25 minutes from beautiful North Shore beaches. The community boasts a 500-seat theatre, a Celtic college and performance venue, a municipal sports facility, (including pools and arenas), along with many parks and miles of trails.

Eptek Art & Culture Centre is located adjacent to the Harbourfront Theatre and the waterfront shopping area. The Centre is across the street from the Confederation Trail and also borders the scenic Baywalk boardwalk.
Résumés must be received by April 28 at Eptek Art & Culture Centre via post to 130 Heather Moyse Drive Summerside PE C1N 5Y8; via fax to (902) 888-8375; or via e-mail to eptek@gov.pe.ca (subject to deadline extension and project confirmation).
