Position: Cultural Programs Assistant

The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford seeks an energetic summer student for the position of Cultural Programs Assistant. This is a 15 week position, which runs from May 14 to August 24, 2018. The Cultural Programs Assistant will gain practical, hands-on learning experience in several areas of the museum and gallery sector, with a focus on public and educational programming, and community cultural development. The hourly rate for this position is $14.00 plus 4% vacation pay.

Under the supervision of the Education Programmer, the Cultural Programs Assistant will develop and deliver daily summer art and heritage camps for children and youth, to encourage appreciation and deepen knowledge and enjoyment of arts and heritage. In addition, the candidate will represent The Reach at community events and festivals, Pop-Up Art events, and our summer market fundraiser.

The ideal candidate is a returning post-secondary student at the undergraduate or graduate level studying visual art, art history, museum studies, history, cultural studies, or a field related to culture and heritage. Experience working with children and youth and/or developing programs or lesson plans is favourable. Familiarity with contemporary art is not necessary but is considered an asset. The candidates will have a working knowledge of program and event development, good administrative and time management skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be comfortable working with the public and must be capable of working effectively independently or in a group setting. The candidate must have a valid criminal record check and driver’s license.
