Characteristics of City/Region:
The UEL Heritage Centre and Park is a 72 acre site located on the historic Loyalist Parkway along the shores of the Bay of Quinte. The park has seasonal and overnight camping, picnic and beach areas, and an Ontario Historic Site marker for the original Loyalist landing and Cemetery established in 1784 as well as Loyalist monument and Memorial Gates. The museum is housed in an 1880s brick building and the historic Township Hall is also managed as part of the operation. It is located in the village of Adolphustown in Greater Napanee, and is a popular rural region for summer tourists, about 30 minutes west of Kingston and 15 minutes south of Napanee itself. There are many other historic sites nearby, as well as two local wineries, and it is 10 minutes to Prince Edward County with its numerous parks, beaches and tourist sites. The UELHCP has hosted many activities such as family reunions, musical concerts, Historical Re-enactments and genealogy conferences. The site is owned by the Bay of Quinte Branch of the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada, which is dedicated to keep the heritage of the founding Loyalists alive. For more information on the site, visit the website at www.uel.ca.
