Vtape (Toronto), a national information and distribution service for artists video is offering a 12 week contract to a person, 18-30 years of age, to work as our Collections Assessment Assistant. Funded by Young Canada Works (YCW) this program offers young Canadians the opportunity to develop work skills and gain professional experience.

Our Collections Assessment Assistant will work alongside our Restoration and Collections Management Director, Kim Tomczak and Vtape's archival and technical staff to view, assess, analyze and digitize key works in our collection of over 6,200 titles, sub-master tapes and digital reference copies in our collection as well as manage the primarily print based research resources related to these works. CAA's will learn basic skills related to our ongoing preservation activity, gain hands-on experience in the assessment and examination of video tape and have rare exposure to contemporary and historical artists practices and technologies.

The successful candidate will have some post-secondary education; a studio-based arts education in a college or university art program is considered an asset, with interest in the media arts and a good knowledge of contemporary art practices. Computer literacy is a must (MAC experience necessary). Good communication skills and an ability to work in a team are important. Proficiency in English a requirement (oral and written).
