The Stratford Perth Museum, a small community museum located just outside Stratford Ontario, is seeking applications for the position of museum assistant for the period of May to August.
The successful candidates will gain experience in almost every facet of a museum career including exhibits, education and programming and patron services.
Applicants must be eligible under Young Canada Works criteria.
Additionally, the Stratford Perth Museum is partnering with the Stratford Festival in 2018 and presenting two Festival-related exhibits.
The first is Such Stuff as Dreams, an exhibit about the early days of the Stratford Festival.
The second is Harper Lee - To Kill a Mockingbird. This exhibit comes to the Museum from the Harper Lee Museum in Monroe County, Alabama and explores the iconic and much-loved book. The Stratford Festival is presenting the play in 2018.
As a result the successful YCW candidates will work closely with the Stratford Festival in a number of areas.
Finally, the Stratford Perrth Museum is also presenting Steps to Stardom, an exhibit about Stratford native Justin Bieber as his meteoric rise from busker to one of the world's top pop stars.
These are full-time positions, 35 hours a week for 16 weeks. Work schedules will include some nights and weekends. Working well with the public and visitors, a knowledge of the theatre, and a passion for history and museums are significant attributes.
