Job Title: Collections Assistant (1 position)
Job description:
The Collections Assistant will be an integral member of the Heritage Museum team through their support in the area of collections management. The summer student will work with our Collections Manager to improve collections procedures in the areas of storage, preservation, and expansion of information in the collections database. Specific tasks will include one main project, which is taking the lead on the reorganization of textile collection items and storage rooms. This project will include expansion of information of these items in the appropriate data base(s). The Collections Assistant will also be responsible for other collections related duties such as cleaning and maintenance of displays, exhibits, and storage areas; repair of aged accession numbers and labels; assisting the Collections Manager with collections photography digitization and database transfer projects; and any minor projects that may arise during the employment term. The Collections Assistant will also aid in other areas of museum operations including: greeting museum visitors; gift shop sales; and opening and closing of the museum on Saturdays. Further, they will have the opportunity to assist with school and public tours, as well as museum outreach through posts on our Website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed.

Necessary Qualifications:
- Full-time University or College student who is currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program.
- While all students are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those with a field of study in museum, cultural heritage, or art and design studies; education; and / or liberal arts programs such as: History; Anthropology; Archaeology; Native & Aboriginal Studies; Women’s & Gender Studies; Classics; and English.
- Efficient computer and word processing (Microsoft Office) skills. Familiarity with Website and social media applications will be considered an asset.
- The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the local area or an earnest desire to learn more.

Historic Wetaskiwin is located just 45 minutes south of the provincial capital of Edmonton. Wetaskiwin is also within driving distance to many of Alberta’s most celebrated tourist destinations such as Jasper, Rocky Mountain House, Drumheller, and the Calgary Stampede.
