Background
The Lake Charlotte Area Heritage Society owns and operates a 1940s era living history museum called Memory Lane Heritage Village. The Village is comprised of 18 rescued buildings from local coastal communities along Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore. Village life is defined by the innovations of the 1940s and the changes they brought to rural Nova Scotia: electricity, road building, women’s work outside the home, and the time-saving inventions of modern living. Memory Lane is a community owned museum which relies heavily on volunteers who help in all aspects of Village operations, from the peeling of potatoes, to animation, archival assistance, and maintenance. The Village welcomes more than 10,000 visitors per year, and hosts over six special events and festivals, including the Cold Waters Seafood Festival, the Father’s Day Antique Car Show, the Atlantic Canada Harmonica Festival and the Women’s Heritage Celebration. In addition to these annual events, the Village also organizes group tours for seniors, school groups, special needs youth and adults, and tour busses. The Heritage Programming Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director, senior staff, and organizing volunteers to help develop heritage programs and events (authentic activities, etc.) and ensure that they are successful. The Heritage Programming Coordinator will also be responsible for evaluating and documenting each event so that it is easier to organize and improve upon next year.

Specific Skills and Abilities:
• is self directed, logical and highly organized
• has a knowledge of, or interest in, the 1940s
• is reliable, honest and task oriented
• is resourceful and has creative ideas
• has acting or animation experience
• ideally possesses a valid driver’s license
• has public speaking experiences
• is able to work weekends
• has preferably 2 years post-secondary studies
• has knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Publisher

Duties
For each special heritage event or heritage programme:
1. Work with staff and the Executive Director to compile research, visuals, artifacts related to the topic
2. Interview volunteers, members, locals to ensure event authenticity
3. Assist with media releases, event promotion, and social media promotion
4. Prepare tasks lists and workplans, working with volunteer coordinators to assign tasks
5. Coordinate event and oversee visitor exit surveys, follows-up and collects volunteer / staff input
6. Be present on the day of the event to assist with set-up, execution and take down, and to administer surveys
7. Write report on the event for use by organizers next year, including evaluation by volunteers & staff
8. Provide heritage animation when necessary
9. Assist in costuming, props, artifacts etc. for animators and volunteers during these events

In addition:
1. Develop and coordinate school and special programming with Executive Director’s guidance
2. Organize group tour programs when necessary
3. Work with volunteers to coordinate daily animation on site
4. Work with Executive Director and volunteers to develop experiential learning sessions

Terms of Employment:
May 14th to August 24th for 15 weeks at 37.5 hrs. / week at $13.15 per hour + 4% vacation pay + free cookhouse lunch. Students must be enrolled in full time studies prior to, and after, the work-term and be under the age of 30 (proof required).
