Title: Collections Assistant
Site: Carleton University Art Gallery (CUAG), Ottawa, ON

CUAG has, since 2008, been engaged in a multi-year collection reorganization project under the direction of Patrick Lacasse, CUAG’s Collections/Exhibition Assistant. Under the supervision of Lacasse, the Collections Assistant will play an important role in the collection reorganization project. The Collections Assistant will assist in cataloguing a large collection of European prints, reorganizing matted works in the gallery’s storage, and optimizing artworks storage. The Collections Assistant will assist with updating the location of artworks in the collection database, and photographing artworks and uploading new images to the database. The Collections Assistant will also assist with the yearly maintenance of storage rooms and vaults where works on paper are stored.

Field of study: The candidate will preferably possess a minimum of two years of technical training in a museum studies program, such as the one offered by Algonquin College in Ottawa. Alternate practical experience will be considered. Interest in and experience working with visual art is an asset.

Computer skills: The candidate should possess basic word-processing skills. Some experience with database software is an asset but not required.

Young Canada Works (YCW) eligibility:
To qualify for this position, you:
- Are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada.
- Are legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Meet the eligibility criteria of the program for which you are applying.
- Are registered in the YCW online candidate database.
- Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
- Do not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW.
- Have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job.
- Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
