POSITION: Farms Interpreter
HOURS OF WORK: 36.25 hours per week
LOCATION: Upper Canada Village (11 km east of Morrisburg)
SALARY: $14.85 per hour
PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: early-May to September 3, 2018
DUTIES:
To interpret the history of 1860s Ontario through performing and explaining a selection of activities associated with the daily life and work on a working 1860s farm (e.g., farm chores, animal care, etc.) to support Upper Canada Village programming and customer service initiatives; to ensure the safety of visitors and staff and to protect the site’s resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to communicate and to interpret effectively to large numbers of people of various ages and backgrounds; ability to perform physical tasks and work outdoors; knowledge of mid-19th century Ontario history; ability to study and learn the interpretive and historical material related to the position and the village; ability to wear historical costume; ability to perform and learn the skills associated with 1860s mixed farming. A vulnerable service sector check is required for this position.

Upper Canada Village is situated on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, in rural Eastern Ontario. The closest town is Morrisburg, about 11km west of the site. Cornwall is about 30km east of Upper Canada Village, and Ottawa is north about an hour's drive. Upper Canada Village is part of the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, which is responsible for a nearby marina, golf course, Fort Henry, Skywood eco-adventure, bird sanctuary, and campgrounds and day-use areas between the Ontario-Quebec border and Kingston.
