St. Marys Museum and Archives Summer Employment Opportunity: Archives Assistant

Under the Young Canada Works Heritage Institutions program, the St. Marys Museum and Archives has an exciting opportunity for a post-secondary student. The successful candidate will work closely with archival material, both in the reference area and archives vault. Specifically, the candidate will complete arrangement & description of recent donations and historically-significant fonds, digitize archival material and assist with research requests and programming projects. The YCW employee will work with other materials in the archives and also gain experience in the public service aspect of this community archives.

Candidate Profile:

• A post-secondary student, enrolled in a field that requires strong research and writing skills such as in Archival Studies, Library and Information Science, History, English, Journalism or a related field.
• Familiar with local history, or willingness to learn
• Strong computer skills in areas that include word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphic programs and digital imaging.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Organizational abilities and flexible work skills; ability to work on several ongoing projects and likes to see projects through to a successful completion.
• Ability to work both independently or as part of a team.
• Candidates for this program must be entitled to work in Canada, be under 30 years of age and returning to full-time studies in September.

The position is 16 weeks, 35 hours per week, beginning May 14, 2018 and ending August 31, 2018. In June, July and August, the Museum and Archives is open seven days a week. Candidates must be able to be part of a weekend duty rotation. Pay Rate: $14.00/hour
