The Rocky Museum, a Recognized Museum within the Alberta Museums Association, invites visitors to “Step Into the Past!” The museum showcases the pioneer history of Rocky Mountain House and area. Our wonderful collection includes a restored 1917 Amherst player piano, the Glacier school house, a forestry cabin and two large indoor galleries. We are operated by a historical society, and supported through grants from the Town of Rocky Mountain House, Clearwater County and the Alberta Museums Association. Our building also houses the Rocky Mountain House Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Centre, and the Town and Country Farmers’ Market. Check us out at www.rockymuseum.com or Rocky Mountain House Museum on Facebook.
Curious about Rocky Mountain House? Go to www.rockymtnhouse.com and click on the Visitors tab. Activities in the local area and the West Country include fishing, hiking, canoeing, camping, trail riding, bicycle trails, and wildlife watching. Characteristics of the area: The Town of Rocky Mountain House, situated 85 km west of the City of Red Deer in central Alberta, has a population of around 7000 people. The Town’s slogan is “Where Adventure Begins!” Visitors can hike, bike, and climb on the many hiking trails within Clearwater County, and there are lots of places to go camping or try the lakes for fish. The scenery in the West Country is beautiful, with mountains and rivers as the backdrop for your photos. There are two must-see waterfalls within a 1.5 hours driving distance from Rocky Mountain House. Ram Falls is southwest of Rocky Mountain House, and Crescent Falls is found just off of Highway 11, only 15 minutes west of Nordegg. You could see both in one daytrip, and both are amazing. There are three lakes located not too far out of town, including Crimson Lake Provincial Park, and two golf courses. The four main drivers for the Rocky Mountain House economy are Oil and Gas service industries, agriculture, tourism and lumber. Major retail outlets include Canadian Tire, Marks Work Warehouse, Extra Foods, Rocky Mountain House Co-op, Sobeys, Peavey Mart, and Home Hardware. Restaurants include Boston Pizza, Grillers Steakhouse, Tim Hortons, New Dragon Palace, Subway, Nick and Leslie’s (family restaurant), Dairy Queen, and 2 coffee shops on Main Street. There is a cinema, and a bowling alley. Major events held each year include the Rocky Pro Rodeo, first weekend in June; Canada Day events including the Rocky Museum’s Pancake Breakfast; Battle of the Rockies Chuck Wagon Races in August; and Marketplace on Main on Thursday evenings, beginning in June.
