Summer Reading Club Assistant
Term of position: June 11 – August 11, 2018
Hours of work: 35 hours/week for 9 weeks. The successful candidate will work Monday-Friday in June and July and Tuesday-Saturday in August.
Rate of Pay: $16.50/hour + 4% in lieu of benefits

The West Vancouver Memorial Library is seeking a post-secondary student to assist with the Library’s Summer Reading Club and Book Buddies programs. Designed to promote reading and libraries over the school break, the province-wide summer reading club attracted over 1900 West Vancouver children and teens last year.

The successful candidate will assist Youth Department librarians, register youth in programs, plan and implement drop-in or take-home activities for youth, create promotional materials/displays and interact with hundreds of kids and teens each day. The successful candidate will also take a leadership role in facilitating our established Book Buddies program involving teen volunteers.

The successful candidate will possess:
-passion and enthusiasm for books, reading and working with youth
-the ability to communicate effectively with staff, children and parents
-the ability to follow written and oral instructions
-the ability to work creatively, independently and as part of a team
-facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and similar cloud products (ex: Google Docs/Sheets)
-excellent organization and time management skills
-completion of grade 12
-experience working with youth and familiarity with children’s and teen literature would be an asset
-experience with mobile devices such as tablets, e-readers and smart phones would be an asset
-experience or an interest in visual arts, crafts and/or maker activities would be an asset
