Wage: The student will be paid a minimum hourly rate of $14.00.
Start date: two day training at County of Bruce: June 4th and 5th ; Starts at Museum June 27th
End date: August 19, 2018.

The preferred candidate for the position will be a post-secondary student, ideally from a marketing, public relations, heritage/museum, hospitality or tourism-related field.

The candidate will need a working understanding of the standard Microsoft Office suite of programs, should know how to take good pictures with a digital camera, and be proficient in email and social networking applications. Web page content management skills would also be an asset, but not necessary. Time management and project resource management would be facets of this job. Working alone, being able to lift 5-10lb boxes, set-up Museum tent and table are requirements, as is an Ontario Driver’s License with a good driving record in order to be able to drive the Museum van. Good writing and editing skills and a pleasant, professional yet friendly telephone manner are key. Also, since working with the public will be a daily occurrence, the successful applicant should be out going and comfortable speaking to large crowds and addressing the general public.

At the Museum the Marketing/Outreach Assistant will receive training and orientation. Initially they will research suitable marketing locations and businesses for display materials, and liaise with those organizations to create a distribution plan. They will become familiar with the Museum’s exhibits and programs to better promote. They will liaise with Bruce County Tourism operations so that we can work together to promote the Museum. The student will contact the selected events and attractions to book his/her attendance at their events to promote the Museum.

After summer scheduling is complete, the student takes the Museum van with promotional materials to all the sites, events and attractions that have been selected and confirmed during the preparation period, track and report on results. On average, the student would spend most of his/her time offsite and the balance working from the Museum after Canada Day. While offsite, the student will set up promotional displays, tables and a sunshade tent. Towards the end of August, the candidate will debrief with their supervisor and discuss their future career plans, based on their experience of the summer.
