Kamloops Art Gallery serves residents and visitors in Kamloops (pop. 92,000) and the surrounding Thompson-Nicola Regional District (pop. 130,000).
Located in the Southern Interior of BC, Kamloops is the meeting place of the South and North Thompson Rivers that form the Thompson River and flow into Kamloops Lake. The Secwepemc people named Tk’emlúps (Kamloops), which means "where the rivers meet," were the first peoples in the area.
The two major ecosystems, grasslands and forests, of southern BC are found in Kamloops and are the boundary between the gently rolling Interior Plateau and the vast, more mountainous Shuswap region which lies just to the east of the city.
Kamloops offers an impressive quality of life and public infrastructure second to none. With a warm, dry climate, no traffic congestion and abundant lifestyle amenities, young professionals, families and mature workers are taking advantage of the balance they can enjoy between career and recreation activities.
