A Summer Art Instructor position is available at Kamloops Art Gallery located in Kamloops, BC. The wage is $15.00/hr plus Vacation Pay and is for a 12-week term, beginning June 4 and ending August 17, 2018. The successful candidate will be pursuing a Bachelor of Education or Fine Arts Degree with related experience, and be returning to a post-secondary institution in September 2018. Candidates must have a willingness to learn, a passion for teaching, art-making experience and excellent communication and motivational skills. Applicants must be between 16-30 years old and must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have Canadian refugee status. The successful candidate will provide a standard of excellence in the development and facilitation of the summer art program for the Gallery. They will work under the direct supervision of the School and Youth Program Coordinator, and will engage the public in our exhibitions through exhibition tours and art classes. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
• Teaching and administering art workshops including set up and clean up of studios to children (ages 4 to 12)
• Preparing comprehensive lesson plans
• Ensuring the safety and security of all program participants
• Ensuring the safety, security and maintenance of the works in the exhibition, while conducting tours in the Gallery
• Providing participants with an educational and enjoyable art experience
• Photo documenting the program
