Collections Management - Project Coordinator Internship Position Available
Hours: 18 week Internship position (35 hours per week) available from Oct 16, 2017 – Mar 2, 2018
Salary: $20.00 per hour
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Curator and working collaboratively with staff and volunteers this position will be responsible for providing collections management support and research within the King Township Museum’s collections.
This 18 week internship offers the qualified applicant the opportunity to use his/her research, records management, and database experience to update artifact records in the museum’s expanded collections storage. This project will allow for greater accessibility to the museum collection both internally and online. It is a great opportunity to learn more about museum collections management and gain experience working in a community history environment.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct research on special collections within the general museum collection of historical objects including research and management of the archaeological collection. Input and complete artifact records and use the museum’s photographic equipment to add digital images to the collections management database.
Inventory, organize, research and rehabilitate (e.g. re-box, re-bag) collections in storage areas as necessary.
Provide administrative support (e.g. data entry) to help in the maintenance of the collections database.
Specifically, the Collections Management Project Coordinator will be responsible for the safe handling of artifacts to museum standards, coordinating with the Curator to determine the most appropriate methods. Filling and administrative duties such as tracking progress of work throughout the project and creating back-ups will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Recent Museum Studies, Archaeology, or History graduate preferred. Previous museum and collections management experience an asset.
This position is funded through Young Canada Works and the Canadian Museums Association which states that students must be recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24 months at the start of employment; are between 16 and 30 years of age; legally entitled to work in Canada; and not be working 30 hours or more at another job.
