The Dawson City Arts Society (DCAS) is a non-profit, registered charity with a mandate to promote arts and culture in Dawson City and the Yukon. The society employs five year-round and several seasonal staff to operate the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC) as a centre for development and implementation of diverse arts education, creation and presentation programming with local, regional and international outreach. KIAC is home to the ODD Gallery, a contemporary art centre housed in KIAC. The ODD Gallery’s year-round programming features solo and group exhibitions (selected and curated by committee) by regional, national and international visual artists. Gallery programming fosters professionalism and appreciation of regional visual arts practice, and provides the community with exposure and access to a diverse range of contemporary visual arts practices and theories.
While Dawson City only has a year round population of two thousand and its relatively isolated geographically, it is a vibrant community with several cultural institutions offering a plethora of activities throughout the year. It is the home of Klondike National Historic Sites (a Parks Canada designation that preserves the Gold Rush history and provides many attractions for tourists) the Danoja Zho Cultural Centre (the Long Ago People's House operated by the Tr'ondek Hwech'in First Nation), and the Yukon School of Visual Art (a foundation year program in the Visual Arts that brings students from across Canada to study each academic year).
We are seeking a qualified, self-motivated individual who is able to work cooperatively and productively in a dynamic arts and cultural environment. The ODD Gallery Programming Intern takes direction from and reports to the Executive Director and the ODD Gallery Director in all aspects of programming related to the ODD Gallery, including developing community outreach activities for all ages. The Intern must be very organized, self-motivated and able to work cooperatively in a dynamic environment.
