Job Summary

This is a 6 month internship where the successful candidate will lead two separate projects. The first project is to create an electronic file structure and digitize library documents and the second project will be to research best practices and tools for successful social media use in a small rural library.


Tweed is located half way between Toronto and Ottawa approximately 30 minutes north of the 401 at Belleville. The Tweed Public Library offers numerous formats of materials, information, programs and services to all ages in the community.

The successful candidate will be required to work 30 of the 31.5 open hours and available Tuesday – Saturday inclusive to ensure meeting the 30 hour requirement.


Duties

• Organize paper files into a logical file structure and digitalize to create an electronic file system for ease of access by library staff and board members
• Scan documents to create electronic versions and an electronic file system
• Research by reviewing and reaching out to other small libraries regarding their social media use and create a tips and tricks list of ideas to try and determine what will work best in our community
• create social media content and a strategy for the library social media
• Create documentation for the ongoing expectations of the library community engagement
• Determine a communication plan of action for library advocacy and promotion in the community
• Assist at the circulation desk checking in/out library materials. including registering new patrons and updating confidential records
• Engage in reference interviews to provide patrons with information and materials within the library and local community
• Other tasks as required on the circulation desk: provide inter-library loan requests, handle money for fines, book sales, computer printing and photocopying


Qualifications

• Proficient communication skills, oral and written
• Customer Service experience, preferably with all ages
• Ability to work independently
• Familiarity and experience using Microsoft Office, specifically for report writing and presentations
• Social media knowledge and experience across multiple platforms
• involvement with leading or managing projects
• experience with technology devices: laptop, mobile devices, printers, scanners
• Recent college or university graduate
• Must be available for all open library hours
• Must be willing to provide a vulnerable sector police check
