The Cobourg Public Library invites applications for one Graduate Internship position as a Community Outreach Assistant. This is a grant position made available through Young Canada Works Internship Program.

Job title: Community Outreach Assistant

Reports to: Manager, Public Services

Salary: $20.00 / hour

Duration: 480 hours total (16 weeks)
Approximately 30 hours per week
Start Date Tuesday October 10, 2017

Job Summary: The intern will assist with Library events specific to Canada’s 150th Anniversary. This includes: coordinating guest speakers, performers, and heritage programs/displays being hosted by the Library. The student will also participate in community outreach events organized by the Library and the Town of Cobourg, and they will promote Library programs within the community at these outreach events. The intern will also assist with the development of Library marketing materials and Library social media specific to Canada’s 150th Anniversary.

Eligibility:
This position is part of the YCW Graduate Internship Program.
As per the programs funding criteria, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements as outlined below:

Eligibility Requirements
• Youth must be between 16-30 years of age at the start of employment;
• Must be a recent college or university graduate;
• Be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory;
• Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
• Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations *Non-Canadian graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
• Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
• Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW

Skills, Knowledge, Training:
• Must be comfortable working with print and media (photo, video)
• Experience in using various social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
• Experience planning and coordinating recreational programs
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work evenings and weekends
• A clear vulnerable sector police check


Qualifications
Completion of a Library & Information Technician’s Diploma, Advertising & Marketing Communications Diploma, or a Masters of Library and Information Science Degree.
