Description

The Collections assistant intern will receive training and work under the supervision of two staff librarians in Artexte’s unique collection of Canadian art documentation. The Collections assistant will : catalogue new print acquisitions and digital titles, provide reference services and contribute to the promotion of the collection.

Job Requirements : Candidates must have recently completed a Master's Degree of Library Science or Master 's Degree of Information Science / Studies.

Bilingualism (French and English) is required for this position.

Summary description

Quebec art documentation. The Collection Assistant will: catalogue new print acquisitions and digital titles, provide reference services, and contribute to the promotion of the collection.

Artexte est un organisme à but non lucratif qui a pour mandat principal la documentation des arts visuels contemporains de 1965 à aujourd’hui, avec une spécialisation québécoise et canadienne.

Se rapportant à la bibliothécaire, le stagiaire participera à la gestion de la collection dans les tâches reliées au traitement documentaire, au catalogage, à la conservation et aux services au public.

Catalogage

• Création des notices bibliographiques dans notre base de données / dépôt numérique e-artexte en conformité avec les règles établies par Artexte et basées sur les normes ISBD

• Procéder au tri et au classement des documents

Conservation

• Participation à un projet de conservation dans la collection, en procédant au transfert du contenu des dossiers documentaires vers les boites d’archives

• Maintenir l’organisation des documents à l’intérieur des dossiers

Services au public

• Orienter et initier les usagers à la collection et aux outils de recherches

• Répondre aux requêtes du public (sur place ou par téléphone) en matière de références

Autres

• Partager les responsabilités de l’accueil pour l’espace d’exposition au besoin

• Réaliser d’autres tâches, selon les besoins de l’organisme

REQUIREMENTS :
Bilingualism in English and French, written and spoken
Knowledge of Canadian visual arts is an asset

JOB DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1980, Artexte is a federally-chartered, non-profit arts organization with a mandate to collect, organize and disseminate information about contemporary art from 1965 to the present with a special emphasis on Canadian art.

Reporting to the Librarian, the intern will perform duties related to the maintenance of the collection. They will execute various tasks related to document treatment, cataloguing, conservation and reference services.

Cataloging
Creation of original bibliographic records in e-Artexte (e-artexte.ca), an open-source database and digital repository using Artexte’s internal guidelines and ISBD standards of cataloguing
Sorting and filing of documents

Conservation
Participate in a conservation project, involving the transfer of documentary files to archival boxes and ensuring the organization of the documents within

Reference services
Introduce visitors to the collection and provide instruction on onsite research tools.
Respond to research inquiries from the public in person or by telephone

Other
Assist with reception duties and welcoming visitors to the exhibition space, as needed
Execute various other tasks as required by the organisation
