The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba is seeking a candidate to assist with all duties related to the management and ongoing operations of the Gallery and Art Education program. The Junior Preparator will assist the Facility Manager with the care, handling, and installation of artwork for the Main Gallery, working closely with the Curator and exhibiting artists to insure professional presentation. The Intern will also assist in the management and maintenance of all studios including those dedicated to Ceramics, Printmaking, Painting, Drawing, and Photography.

The Intern will develop skills preparing them for a career in museology, cultural industries, or management of not-for-profit operations. They will learn proper Art Conservation, Preparation, and Collection Management practices. The Intern will also assist with the coordination and communication with Art Instructors, Staff, and Students.

The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter with an interest in the arts. They have completed a BA or a BFA and are willing and eager to join a team-oriented work place with a positive attitude and a creative problem solving approach. The candidate has some experience with construction or art handling, and a willingness to learn on the job and adapt to (and potentially improve) exhibition design pipelines. Art education and creation experience is an asset.

The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba is the second largest Art Gallery in Manitoba and the largest cultural institution in Manitoba outside of Winnipeg. The AGSM has existed in various forms for 110 years, and receives over 20,000 visitors per year. The 22,000 square foot facility serves a wide variety of needs including exhibition, education, and production.
