Duration: September 5th, 2017 to February 16th, 2018

Location: The primary location of work will be 240 Burlington Street East, the Tourism and Culture Division's museum storage location. The site is accessible by public transit. Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license would be an asset.

Summary of Duties:
The relocation and re-housing of artifacts within the City of Hamilton's museum storage facility to meet recommended museum standards and to ensure their long-term preservation and accessibility. Evaluation of individual artifact housing needs. Assessment of the condition of objects and recommendations suggested for the objects long-term preservation needs. Creation of protective enclosures, covers and supports for long-term storage.

General Duties:
- Handles and relocates artifacts within the storage facility based on object size and material type.
-tracks the location within the storage facility, making required location changes in the collections management database.
-determines long-term storage needs for specific objects or collections of objects. Reports on storage needs to the Conservator.
- Creates enclosures, covers and supports for artifacts in storage.
-Reports on artifact stability issues to the Conservator.
-Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety.

Qualifications:
1. Experience in a computerized environment; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Access), Microsoft Windows 7.
2. Ability to input and retrieve spreadsheet, database and statistical data from computer software programs used by the Tourism and Culture Division.
3. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing at all organization levels.
4. Interest or background in preventive conservation, collections care or collections management is strongly recommended.
5. Previous training in preventive conservation, collections care or collections management is an asset.
6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
