• Position: Archive Assistant/Scanner/Photographer/Recorder

• $ 15 hour, 30 hours a week, starting at an agreed date in June and ending August 31, 2017
• A digitization project of the local weekly newspaper plus digitization of a cemetery. This position will primarily involve scanning the local newspaper, running the scans through OCR software, checking readability and collating the pages into appropriate issue and taking pictures of the gravesites and digitizing them. Some web design may be included.
• Qualifications: Minimum grade 12. Student should have experience in working with computers and scanners (dealing with OCR software and Photoshop desirable, but not mandatory)

SaltSpring Island is the largest island in the Gulf Island chain situated between Vancouver Island and the mainland.
Population is approx. 10,000 (very rural area)
Strong community arts group and well educated population
Full medical and dental services including a community hospital
Ferry travel is required with access through three terminals.
Rental accommodation is available
Library usage is one of the highest in BC. The archives are in the library in Ganges.
Amenities, hiking, biking, community swimming pool, golf course, tennis, very active community for outdoor enthusiasts (sailing, boating, fishing) plus young people’s activities such as slow pitch, disc golf, outdoor volleyball, soccer.
