The Cobourg Public Library is comprised of three branches and serves the citizens of the Town of Cobourg and Hamilton Township. The area is a popular tourist area with a well developed waterfront, marina and beach. Well attended summer festivals include the Annual Waterfront Festival, Ribfest and the Sandcastle Festival.

The Cobourg Public Library invites applications for one temporary position as a Summer Reading Club Assistant in the youth services department. The Assistant will provide services to the Youth Services Staff in order to allow unlimited access to the Library’s Summer Reading Club program and to augment the opportunity to offer additional literacy-based summer programs at the Library’s three branches.
Specific responsibilities will include:
•Assisting with the development and execution of the Library’s Summer Reading Club
•Assisting with the registration of children into the Summer Reading Club
•Preparing displays to advertise children’s summer programs
•Directly interacting with children and youth to receive book reports of participants in the summer reading club
•Providing patron assistance, including computer use assistance
•Shelf reading
•Assisting with the management of social media for the summer reading club program

Other qualifications include: a proven interest and ability to successfully work with children. A clear criminal record check is also required.

Duration: 30 hours per week for 10 weeks including some evenings and Saturdays

Start Date: June 20, 2017

Wage: $11.40 /hour
