Do you have an interest in the history of heritage preservation? The Hallmark Heritage Society has a job opening for an archival assistant this summer. The Society is the oldest heritage preservation organization in the region and was formed in 1973. It has become the heritage conscience of the region and the archives contain the visual evidence of the heritage work undertaken over the past several years. We are in the process of digitizing the textual documents in our paper files. These files, organized by street address, contain a wealth of information on over 10,000 buildings in the Capital Regional District. The job entails digitizing documents and uploading them to a WordPress based website using a template designed last summer. The work term begins in early May and runs 16 weeks until the end of August. The society’s office is in the historic Craigflower Schoolhouse located in a park-like setting on the waters of the Gorge waterway. It is pleasant place to work, on major bus lines, and with shopping and food outlets within a block or two. Application can be made to the society via email at office@hallmarkheritagesociety.ca. The closing date for applications is April 15, 2017. Please include in your application, examples of relevant experience and the qualities that you bring to the job. We accept applications from all students, but will only interview a selected group of candidates. If you have any questions about the work, please contact us at the address above.
