Heritage Planner Summer Student - Town of Whitby

The Town of Whitby, Durham’s Business Centre, a rapidly expanding and progressive community with a population of 130,000 and located approximately 50 km east of Toronto, is currently seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual for this challenging opportunity. The Heritage Planning Summer Student responsibilities include:
• Support the Planner II in administering and implementing the comprehensive heritage program
• Research and review of development proposals in Brooklin Heritage Conservation District (HCD) and assist with the implementation of the Werden's Plan HCD
• Research and assist in development of heritage conservation policies and guidelines
• Research for significant and designated properties under Ontario Heritage Act
• Research and support in update of Heritage Register
• Assist in review of Heritage Permit applications and assist in preparing reports for Heritage Permit applications
• Research and assist in implementation of Financial Incentive Programs (eg. Heritage Tax Rebate program; Façade Grant Program)
• Assist in preparation of Heritage Matters Newsletter and other promotional materials for heritage conservation
• Provide assistance and organization of LACAC Heritage Whitby displays at Town events
• Assisting in administrative aspects related to LACAC Heritage Whitby as assigned by the Planner II / Committee Liaison for LACAC Heritage Whitby
• Provide support in coordination of Division events
• Other duties as assigned for Division and / or Department subject to supervisor’s approval

Eligibility Requirements:
University student who has completed first year leading to a degree in one of the following areas: Urban Planning, Urban Geography, Environmental Studies, Historical Architecture, or related discipline with a demonstrated interest in heritage conservation.
Students must be currently enrolled in and attending a post-secondary institution on a full-time basis (students will be required to provide proof) for the 2016/17 school year and be returning to a post-secondary institution on a full-time basis in September 2017 (students will be required to provide proof);
Applicants must complete and sign the Summer Student Employment Program Application Form (available on the Town of Whitby Website) and submit together with a current resume;
Applicants must be available to attend an interview in person, interviews will not be conducted via the telephone and/or the internet;
Students selected must be available to commence summer employment as early as May 1, 2017 and commit to working through to, and including, September 1, 2017.
