The Wildlife Rehabilitation Intern will help manage the care of wildlife patients and ambassadors at the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre. The candidate will work with the management team to ensure high standards of animal care are adhered to. They will contribute to the smooth operation of Wildlife Haven and adhere to the high standards of animal welfare and ethics.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure intake of new patients, including collection and reporting of intake information.
Manage patient diet. Prepare food and feed the animals.
Document animal care, feed intake, and exam results in the database or appropriate log.
Clean and disinfect enclosures.
Clean and disinfect dishes, other equipment, and laundry.
Set up enclosures.
Triage animal care needs to deal with highest priority first.
Assist with animal physical examinations and assessments
Discover and respond to patient needs. Anticipate patient and organization needs by constantly evaluating environment and patients for cues.
Organize opening and closing duties as assigned.
Follow operational policies and procedures, including those for safety and security, to ensure the safety of all employees during each shift. Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines.
Assist with public inquiries and patient drop offs. Respond to phone inquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent customer service skills, in person and on the phone.
Experience & knowledge of handling of wild animals.
Available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
