U Multicultural Inc. is seeking two motivated and enthusiastic Archives & Media Preservation Assistants to support the organization in documenting, organizing, and preserving audiovisual content from our radio and television programming. This paid position offers hands-on experience in digital archiving, cataloguing, audiovisual preservation, and media management. Students will work with diverse communities and contribute to preserving culturally relevant media content in a supportive learning environment.

About the Role
As an Archives & Media Preservation Assistant, you will help organize, digitize, and document audiovisual materials produced by U Multicultural Inc. You will receive training and mentorship from experienced staff and gain practical experience in media preservation, archival management, and community-focused documentation.

Key Responsibilities
Assist with cataloguing and organizing radio and television program recordings
Digitize analog or unorganized media into digital formats
Maintain metadata, logs, and documentation for archived content
Support preservation of multilingual and community-based programming
Assist staff in locating and preparing materials for educational, community, and cultural use
Participate in training sessions, hands-on coaching, and weekly progress meetings

Required Qualifications

Enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in communications, media studies, library or archival studies, or a related field

Strong verbal and written communication skills
Basic computer skills (email, word processing, file management)
Interest in media, archival work, or cultural heritage preservation
Willingness to learn digital archiving, cataloguing, and audiovisual preservation tools
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities
Previous experience with media equipment, editing software, or archiving is an asset but not required

Eligibility Requirements
In accordance with Young Canada Works eligibility criteria, candidates must:
Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status
Be legally entitled to work in Canada
Be registered in the Young Canada Works candidate system
