Job Duties:

1. Research and Writing
• Research blog post topics using sources such as the Archives of Manitoba, newspaper archives, local history books and oral history interviews.
• Write blog posts for the museum that captures, preserves and shares the heritage of Selkirk.
• Assist with conducting and recording oral histories, managing the digital files and transcribing the interviews.

2. Administrative
• Maintain and update website content to ensure it remains accurate, and user-friendly.
• Assist with marketing of the Selkirk Museum to attract visitors to learn the rich history of Selkirk through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram posts, and stories.

3. Archiving
• Assist with the documentation, preservation, and cataloging of archives.
• Support the organization and digitization of the City of Selkirk’s archive, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
• Maintain and update the museum’s inventory and database, ensuring proper care, storage, and accessibility of assets.

4. Programming and Events
• Assist with the development, implementation and promotion of heritage programming and events that will conserve and enhance Selkirk’s public spaces.

5. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.



Specifications:

1. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum qualifications shall include:
• A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible)
• Legally entitled to work in Canada
• Between the age of 16 to 30 years at the start of employment
• Full-time high school, college, CEGEP, or university student
• Proven understanding of project/event development, marketing and event promotion
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Computer experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, internet and social media
• Clear Current Child Abuse Registry Check
• Clear Current Criminal Reference Check
• Valid Class 5 or G Driver’s License


2. Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Culture Coordinator, the incumbent will assist in planning, preparing, and delivering content that highlights local history and culture.


3. Comprehension & Judgment

The incumbent is expected to act independently. Direction and supervision will be provided by the Culture Coordinator concerning priorities, but the incumbent is expected to show initiative and is responsible to complete work or assignments on schedule.


4. Safety & Health

In the course of carrying out daily tasks, must practice established safety rules and regulations for the protection of self, fellow employees, the public, property and equipment by being continuously aware of existing and new safety procedures of the Corporation.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contracts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.


5. Working Conditions

This position may work up to 35 hours per week. Must provide own transportation for purposes related to the position.
