The AGP is an equal opportunity employer, and we encourage applications from all qualified candidates.

About the AGP:
The Art Gallery of Peterborough (AGP) is a non-profit gallery with a long history of ground-breaking exhibitions and programs. Located in the heart of the City of Peterborough, we are rooted in the Kawartha region yet reach across the nation to present and collect contemporary Canadian art. We make significant contributions to a local culture that is already rich with talented artists. We develop programs that support our exhibitions and encourage discourse through lectures, workshops, and publications. Our curatorial strategies are informed by current practices, art theory and criticism, and guided by a commitment to presenting work by diverse artists. The Permanent Collection now numbers over 1,800 artworks, including contemporary and historical paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, installations, photographs and mixed media works, both Canadian and international in origin.

The AGP is now in the final stages of our current strategic plan, the focus of which is to renew our commitment to our mandate, and offer a framework for the development of annual operational plans with measurable goals and objectives. This plan has allowed us to amplify our profile through dynamic communications, engaging exhibitions, and inspiring educational programs.

Project & Job Objectives:
Though temporary, the Education Assistant (EA) is an essential part of the AGP team. They will work closely with the Curator, Education Programming Coordinator, Communications & Volunteer Coordinator, and AGP Art Educators during an integral section of our programming schedule. The AGP provides important programming and access to art and art education in our region. With a small staff, the EA is quickly integrated into most aspects of education and outreach programming, and they are afforded many opportunities to make an impactful contribution. The AGP is a prime environment in which to gain hands-on experience in art education for all ages, allowing core staff to continue the day-to-day activities and develop programs for the future. The role of the EA is to ensure the quality and continuity of our summer education programming, and to assist in the development of future programs. The impact of the EA goes well beyond the duration of the contract.

Our ideal candidate will have proven organizational and leadership skills in arts education and volunteer management. They must be able to work independently with minimal supervision; coordinate several tasks at one time; and be a team player committed to quality customer service.

They should also have a keen interest and demonstrated background in working with children and youth. Experience leading small groups of children/peers is considered an asset. Experience in Volunteer Management and Customer Service is also an asset.

The Education Assistant will be required to provide (or obtain) a current criminal reference check with vulnerable sector check, First Aid, and Accessible Customer Service training, as a condition of employment.
