The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, Waterloo, ON, is looking for dynamic Summer Camp Counsellors to design and run our Summer Camp programming. The Counsellors will provide instructions for our clay and glass activities, design programs inspired by the current exhibitions and lead campers in participating in the daily activities in a fun and creative environment. 

The candidates should be proactive with leadership qualities, have a positive attitude, and a caring disposition to deliver a fun and safe camp experience to the participants. 

Key Responsibilities 

Working as part of a team to plan, coordinate and deliver camp programs. 
Leading and supporting campers as they participate in age-appropriate activities. 
Teaching art projects through demonstrations and detailed descriptions. 
Giving guided tours of exhibitions and leading discussions with art campers. 
Monitoring campers to ensure compliance with camp rules and prevent accidents. 
Cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment. 
Providing First Aid when necessary and reporting and recording details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to parents and camp staff. St John’s Ambulance First Aid training is provided during training. 
Learning emergency and Health and Safety procedures and enforcing camp rules. 

Requirements 

Vulnerable Sector Police Check will be required for all successful candidates. 
Experience working with children (age 7-13). 
Knowledge of Visual Arts – ability to work with a variety of artistic mediums (experience with clay or glass is an asset). Candidates who are invited to interview will be asked to submit photographs of 1-3 artworks they have made. 
Strong communication skills and leadership qualities. 
Public Speaking – comfortable speaking in front of a group. 
Responsible and positive, with an upbeat and friendly personality. 
Bilingual (French and English) is an asset but not a requirement. 

Young Canada Works Eligibility Requirements 

Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students or graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible. 
Legally entitled to work in Canada. 
Between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. 
Meet the specific eligibility criteria of the program to which you apply. 
Registered in the YCW online candidate inventory. 
Registered as a high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and intend to return to studies during or after the YCW work assignment.
