About Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village
Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village is a living history museum operated by the Pincher Creek and District Historical Society. Situated on 6.5 acres of landscaped grounds, the museum features thirty-six heritage buildings and extensive archival collections. The Village is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and educating the public about the history of the Pincher Creek region, including pioneer settlement, Indigenous history, and the cultural development of southwest Alberta.
The Pincher Creek region has a rich and diverse history shaped by Indigenous peoples, early ranching and agricultural communities, railway development, and its role as a gateway to the Canadian Rockies. The museum serves as a vital cultural hub for residents, researchers, and visitors seeking to understand and connect with the region’s past.

Internship Position: Archives Assistant
The Archives Assistant internship provides hands-on experience in a professional museum and archival environment. The successful candidate will support the ongoing digitization, organization, and preservation of historical manuscripts, documents, and archival materials, including local newspapers such as the Pincher Creek Echo.
Key responsibilities include:
• Digitizing archival documents through scanning and photography
• Entering and managing records in the PastPerfect collections management database
• Accessioning archival materials following museum standards
• Editing and organizing digital files to ensure professional-quality access
• Assisting with genealogical and historical research requests from the public
• Supporting the long-term preservation and accessibility of archival collections
This internship offers practical experience in digital preservation, archival research, database management, and public service within the heritage sector.

Qualifications
• Post-secondary completion of studies in Library and Information Studies, Museum Studies, Archival Studies, History, or a related field
• Strong computer skills and attention to detail
• Highly organized and self-motivated
• Interest in museums, archives, history, genealogy, or heritage preservation
• Ability to work independently and handle historical materials with care

Eligibility
• Must be a graduate of college or university; can be a returning student but must already have completed post-secondary education;
• Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
• Must be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment;
• Must be registered in the Young Canada Works online candidate inventory.
