The Art Museum at the University of Toronto (comprised of the federated Justina M. Barnicke Gallery and the University of Toronto Art Centre) is seeking a Collections Assistant to assist in the research, organization and coordination of our outreach activities during the summer and planning for the fall. The position is a 37.5 hour work week, at $15/hour, from May to August.

The ideal candidate for the position of Collections Assistant will have a background and demonstrated knowledge – through education and volunteer or previous employment – in contemporary and historical century Canadian art. They are currently enrolled in post-secondary studies and are intending to return to school in the fall semester, preferably in the field of art history or museum studies.

The candidate will bring excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team, with an emphasis on critical thinking, information accuracy and enthusiasm for contemporary Canadian art and history. The candidate will have proven experience with detailed art research, and is able to process information in a variety of formats, use databases, and present findings. For the role of Collections Assistant, it is preferred that they have prior experience handling artworks, an understanding of art making techniques, and have presented information about artworks to the general public. Previous experience with collections and courses in Canadian art/Medieval Studies are assets.
