Job Description

The Arborg & District Multicultural Heritage Village is seeking two motivated and enthusiastic students to join our team as Conservation and Collections Interpreters. This is an exciting opportunity for students who enjoy history, museums, photography, digital work, and engaging with the public.

These positions support a major heritage project: transferring our entire collection of over 15,000 artifacts into Musetoba, Manitoba’s new cloud-based museum cataloguing system. Students will gain hands-on experience in collections care, digital documentation, artifact photography, exhibit work, interpretation, and heritage programming.

Key Responsibilities
• Digitize and transfer artifact records, photos, and documentation into Musetoba
• Photograph artifacts, displays, archival materials, and building interiors
• Label, organize, and upload digital images to the cloud database
• Assist with cataloguing, condition reporting, and collection assessments
• Learn and share the history of our 21 heritage buildings
• Provide guided tours for visitors, school groups, seniors’ groups, and bus tours
• Assist with seasonal programming: Children’s Days, Seniors’ Days, Manitoba Day, Canada Day, and Family Day
• Help with exhibit research, installation, signage updates, and interpretation
• Work collaboratively with the supervisor, volunteers, and your fellow student interpreter
• Represent the Heritage Village in a positive, professional, and friendly manner
Qualifications
We welcome a wide range of students and educational backgrounds. Applicants may be:
• First-year university or college students
• Students enrolled in technical, vocational, or certificate programs
• Students entering post-secondary studies in Fall 2026
• Mature students returning to education or students in High School

Required Skills & Attributes
• Strong computer skills (Windows, email, file management, Word/Excel)
• Comfortable learning new digital tools and software
• Able to take clear, focused photographs
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple tasks
• Comfortable interacting with visitors of all ages
• Interested in history, storytelling, or community heritage
• Able to work independently and as part of a team

Prior museum experience is NOT required.
Training will be provided, including professional instruction through the Association of Manitoba Museums.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move between multiple heritage buildings
• Ability to handle artifacts with care
• Light lifting, bending, walking, and photography work
