The summer student will plan, create, and schedule one year of social media content across multiple platforms, increasing public awareness of the museum’s collections, programming, and partnerships. This position will play a key role in developing a consistent visual identity and voice for the museum.
The student will generate content for Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, and YouTube, and explore the potential use of TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Content will highlight events in the museum’s annual calendar, significant labour history dates, and collaborations with community and heritage partners.
The duties of the student will include:
-Planning and scheduling social media content for an extended schedule
-Writing captions, informational text, and accessible alt text
-Creating consistent social media templates and hashtag sets
-Producing photographic and short-form video content
-Sourcing images, including permissions and credit information
-Tracking analytics and reporting on audience engagement
-Managing digital files related to social media content
-Production of a final report for the board
Basic Requirements:
-Background in Media, Media Production, Public History, Museum Studies, or a related discipline
-Strong computer skills
-Strong organizational skills
-Strong writing skills
-Familiarity with social media platforms
-Ability to work for periods of time with minimal supervision
-Strong attention to detail
-Strong English skills
Assets (These are just bonus skills and not required to apply!):
-French or additional language skills
-Familiarity with labour and working-class history
-Heritage or GLAM institutional experience
-Experience with content creation or social media analytics
-Photography or video production experience
