Mini U programming is child-centred and experiential, encouraging learning, personal growth, skill development, and the exploration of new ideas. Courses are STEAM-based and span a wide range of subject areas, including arts, humanities, physical education, science, and technology, with offerings such as coding and robotics.
Each course is designed to provide fun, positive, and confidence-building experiences for all participants. The number of courses taught by each instructor varies, and some courses are co-instructed.
Head Instructor – Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
-Plan, develop, and deliver engaging, hands-on summer camp courses and activities.
-Participate fully in Mini U training and orientation.
-Prepare, test, and refine lesson plans for assigned courses.
-Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including camp registrations and the preparation and promotion of Mini University.
-Supervise and be responsible for assigned groups of participants.
-Oversee lesson planning and content delivery by junior instructors.
-Instruct assigned classes during scheduled time slots.
Qualifications and Qualities Required
-Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution, with the intention to return in the fall.
-A strong interest in teaching, with enthusiasm and aptitude for working with children.
-Knowledge of and desire to teach one or more Mini U subject areas, such as science, performing or fine arts, humanities, sports, or computer science.
-Expertise in multiple subject areas is considered an asset, particularly in robotics, carpentry, soldering, digital art, animation and music, movie making and video editing, and computer science (especially coding, game design, animation, or Minecraft-based programming).
-Computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, are an asset.
-Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
-Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Wage:
$17.75* per hour + 6% vacation pay + eligible travel expenses (*may increase based on pending PSAC collective agreement negotiations)
Term:
May 11 – September 1, 2026
Up to 8.0 hours per day, depending on candidate availability
