ABOUT AWE:


Established in 1943, AWE is the largest public art gallery in Southwestern Ontario and has grown with incredible support from the Windsor-Essex community. At AWE, we share historical Canadian, Indigenous, and contemporary Art with the Windsor-Essex community in inventive and creative ways. Through our engaging educational activities, we spark creativity and conversations. With 15,000 square feet of exhibition space, new takes on our permanent collection of nearly 4000 artworks, and through unexpected partnerships, AWE is the creative heart of Windsor-Essex.


NATURE AND SCOPE:


Under the supervision of the Head of Programs and Partnerships and working closely with curators, staff, and volunteers, this position focuses on supporting AWE’s Education Plan , Digital Strategy and the Truth and Reconcillation Action Plan. The Programming Assistant is responsible for supporting education initiatives at AWE, including coordinating programming for youth, supporting and digital outreach programs, research and collecting qualitative and quantitative data related to the education programs.


SUMMARY OF KEY DUTIES:


- Supports the development of content on visual literacy specific to youth and culturally diverse audiences and incorporates Ministry of Education curriculum content;


- Researches and develops interpretative materials in collaboration with other public program staff;


- Organizes all aspects of programs, including coordinating registration, staffing, content preparation;


- Creates and edits content on applications and Wordpress sites.


- Facilitates workshops and / or skill shares;


- Plans and coordinates supplies and materials for programs;


- Performs other duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS:


- Post-secondary degree in Education, Communications/Film, Visual Arts and/or Visual Arts Education, or Theater;


- Experience working in an education/and or cultural environment;


- Knowledge of visual arts and the ability to research, prepare, and present educational information that is accessible to a range of ages and levels of experience;


- Strong written and oral communication and administrative skills;


-Experience using audio visual equipment


- Demonstrated digital skills.

• are legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);

• are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and

• are a college or university graduate (certificate, bachelor's, master's or doctorate).

Note: Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in YCW internship programs and that are unemployed or underemployed.
