Position: Museum Assistant
The Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society is a volunteer driven non-profit organization that operates Port Coquitlam’s only Museum and Archives dedicated to celebrating and preserving Port Coquitlam’s diverse heritage and culture.

We are seeking a Museum Assistant to join our team!

Working under the direction of the Museum Manager, the Museum Assistant will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the development, facilitation, and review of museum events and programming
- Assisting in the management and creation of social media and website content
- Some basic graphic design work including creating posters, social media posts, and other materials for events and programming
- Assisting with occasional collections work as needed
- Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- A relevant Post-secondary degree or diploma in Museum Studies, History, Education, Anthropology, etc.
- Experience with common office software and social media platforms (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
- Able to work independently and in a collaborative environment
- Excellent English oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to lift and carry boxes and supplies up to 20 lbs, and able to climb ladders and reach overhead
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Desirable skills:
- Experience in event planning
- Experience providing programming to adults and children (e.g. tours, workshops etc.)
- Experience with WordPress
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, and InDesign


An individual may be eligible for an internship if they:

are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
are legally entitled to work in Canada;
are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; and
are a college or university graduate

This a contract position from August 29 – December 23, 2023. Hours are 35 per week, at the rate of $18 per hour plus statutory benefits.
