Job Description: Special Events Coordinator
Seasonal. Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Due to the nature of Recreation, this person will be required to work some evenings and weekends. Time in lieu shall be given for overtime hours. This is a 16 week position paying $11.70/hour, starting April 24 - August 18.

This position reports to Recreation Director
Description Overview
The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of a variety of special events throughout the summer months. This position will work closely with the Outdoor Program Coordinator to establish a reasonable schedule of events for the 4-month period. The Special Event Coordinator will concentrate on target groups (i.e. Youth, families, senior etc.), as outlined by the Physical Activity Strategic Plan, the Recreation Strategic Plan, and the Active Transportation Plan.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
a) To work within the budget for programs.
b) To be a valuable team member.
c) To attend weekly internal staff meetings.
d) To plan, implement and evaluate special events.
e) To be innovative in the special event programs.
f) To document each event including recommendations for future planning.
g) To be responsible for the promotion of recreation events.
h) To be able to recruit volunteers when necessary.
i) To be able to effectively use the recreation online registration system “ActiveNet”.
j) To ensure that all events safety concerns have been address prior to implementation.
k) To be responsible for event equipment and materials such as prizes if necessary.
l) To assist with other recreation programs.
m) To deal with the public in a professional manner.
n) To be willing to take further training if necessary.
o) To perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in a University or Community College program in Recreation, Education, Kinesiology or Physical Education. Good organizational, leadership and communication skills are required. Any previous event or program coordination experience would be an asset. Good IT skills are required and preferably knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher. The candidate must be fluently bilingual in both French and English. Should have a valid Driver’s License. Must be between 16 and 30 years of age.
