Admiralty House Communications Museum is looking for an Intern researcher who will research communications history and Marconi in Newfoundland and Labrador. The intern will also be responsible for managing rentals and helping coordinate events. Admiralty House Communications Museum promotes equal opportunities to all people. The position will be approximately 16 weeks at $16/hour and 35 hours per week. The researcher will be undertaking research about Marconi’s legacy in Newfoundland and Labrador. This will include archival research, interviews, collaboration with other sites in Newfoundland and Labrador associated with Marconi, assessment of relevant artefacts and document, helping to write the story for the eventual publication of the online exhibit with Digital Museums Canada. During the downtime of this project, the intern will work on other projects about Mount Pearl history and culture, and help with managing rentals and events.

Qualifications for this position are an undergraduate degree in History, Archaeology, or Folklore, good communication and writing skills, time management, ability to work with deadlines, ability to work in a team environment, familiarity with Microsoft office and google drive, quick computer learning skills for uploading and navigating a digital museum portal, availability on evenings and weekends, good oral communication skills, and experience conducting interviews.

This position is funded in part through the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage program, and all applicants must be registered in the YCW candidate pool and meet the current YCW-BCH eligibility criteria. An individual may be eligible for an internship if they:

• are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
• are legally entitled to work in Canada;
• are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
• are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
• will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
• are unemployed or underemployed;
• are a college or university graduate; and
• are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program.

Note: Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in YCW internship programs.
