Description:
Working as a team with the Camp Cosmos Coordinator, the Intercultural Worker will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of Camp Cosmos’ Intercultural Program. The Intercultural Worker will design and deliver human rights-based workshops for youth as well as facilitate training workshops for Camp Cosmos staff regarding the Intercultural activities that will take place at Camp.

Responsibilities:
- Meet with MCM Director and Camp Cosmos Coordinator to better understand human rights and what can be improved
- Identify and contact community organizations that work with members from diverse cultural communities, including immigrants, refugees, and Indigenous communities, in order to begin potential collaborations
- With support of Camp Coordinator, plan and facilitate 6 intercultural activities for youth
- Acquire all needed support material for workshops and camp activities
- Work as a Camp Counsellor during the 6 weeks of camp
- Write an evaluation of the Intercultural Program

Work plan:
Week 1-5: May 23rd – June 23rd
- Orientation; meeting with Director of Montreal City Mission and Camp Cosmos Coordinator
- Identify other potential community partners (services/programs that work with members of diverse cultural communities, Indigenous communities)
- In collaboration with the Camp Coordinator, develop 6 human rights/children’s rights workshops for children
- Plan various Intercultural activities for the 6 weeks of camp (including artistic activities)
- Develop staff training workshops regarding the Intercultural Program
- Acquire all needed material for camp
- Meet with members of other community organizations to increase resources/build community

Week 6: June 27th – July 1st
- Participate in general, full camp-staff training
- Give Intercultural training workshops

Weeks 7-12: July 4th – August 12
- Work as a camp counselor for your assigned age group
- Oversee implementation of Intercultural programming
- Facilitate workshop(s) and activities with campers as needed
- Maintain communication with community partners
- Confirm outings three days in advance
- Participate in daily staff meetings

Week 13: August 15-19
- Clean up of camp; organization of inventory; preparation of following year’s inventory
- Get feedback in the form of questionnaires to campers, staff, and parents in order to measure the impact of the Intercultural messages taught at camp, as well as the popularity of Intercultural outings
- Gather feedback from community partners in the form of a questionnaire in order to measure their impression of the Intercultural Program
- Write an internal final report
- Write a section for the Annual Report for future employees

Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of English and French, additional languages an asset
- Experience working with children, youth, and/or adults from immigrant and/or refugee backgrounds an asset
- Commitment to principles of human rights, social justice, and anti-oppression
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Experience with program and workshop planning and evaluation an asset
- Experience in leadership position an asset
- Strong communication skills (listening, expressing)
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to think outside the box, problem-solve
- Good time management skills

Conditions:
- $14/hour
- 7hrs/day before and after camp: 9am-5pm (unpaid lunch)
- 8hrs/day during Camp: 8:30am-4:30pm (paid lunch)
- 13 weeks: May 22nd , 2017 to August 11, 2017
