The Art Gallery of Alberta is the oldest cultural institution in Alberta and the province's only solely dedicated art museum. Serving both the city of Edmonton and the province of Alberta, the Gallery maintains a collection of over 6,000 objects and presents an ongoing series of collection-based and temporary exhibitions with related interpretive programs. The Art Gallery of Alberta is committed to deepening the understanding of visual culture through ongoing investigations of artistic and curatorial practice, where the viewer is inspired to go beyond the end product to gain greater awareness of and appreciation for the creative process.
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Summer Programs Co-ordinator is a 15-week full time position beginning May 15, 2017 and ending on August 25, 2017. The wage for this position is $18.00/hour at 37.5 hours per week. As a member of the Education Department at the Art Gallery of Alberta, the Summer Programs Coordinator will be an active member in planning, administering and delivering Summer ArtBreak Camps & Classes.

The Summer Programs Coordinator will be responsible for:

- Development and delivery of studio lesson plans and activities
- Administrative duties including, not limited to: data entry, filing, excursion bookings, registration of students, volunteer management and supplies maintenance
- Preparation and maintenance of studio art spaces and storage spaces
- Research and through understanding of Gallery exhibitions
- Attending training and orientation sessions as needed.


Qualifications:
A successful candidate for the Education Programs Coordinator position will have the following:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree in Education, Fine Arts, Art History or related field. Applicant must be a returning student to qualify for position.
- Experience working in a gallery, museum or school environment and experiences working with youth and kids
- Studio Art Experience
- Administrative experience such as filing, data entry, administering a budget and ordering supplies
- Computer literacy, with an extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of the Alberta Education Program of Study and current trends and research in Art Education
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proven ability to take initiative, manage projects and implement strategic plans
