Job Description
The Event and Promotion Planner will be responsible for researching, writing, and leading a historic walking tour out of the Hope Museum entitled “150 Years of Hope.” The tour will aim to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary by exploring the ways in which life has changed in Hope since 1867. The student will also be responsible for creating a marketing plan for the tour, as well as supporting museum partners with promoting other Canada150 events throughout the community. When not leading tours, the Event and Promotion Planner with engage with museum visitors to educate them on Canadian heritage and built heritage sites in the community.

The Hope Visitor Centre and Museum Complex sees upwards of 40 000 visitors annually. The Event and Promotion Planner will be an integral part of the success of the 2017 team. They must be self-motivated with a desire to work closely with the general public.

Qualifications
- Strong customer service skills and organizational skills
- Self-motivated and able to demonstrate initiative
- A consummate team player who is able to work independently
- Excellent communication skills: face-to-face, telephone, and written
- Intermediate-advanced computer skills
- Typing: minimum 60wpm
- English essential – French (or other language) would be considered an asset
- This position is open to high school students and students in any bachelor discipline (though preference will be given to students studying or with an interest in: History, Museum Studies, Theatre, Education, Geography, Communications, and English).

Applicants must be registered with Young Canada Works. Eligible applicants must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment (note that the Hope Visitor Centre and Museum Complex is open 7 days/week and that successful applicants will be required to work weekends);
- Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours/week) during the YCW work assignment;
- Have been a full-time student (high school, college, CEGEP, or university) in the spring semester; and
- Intend to return to full-time studies in the fall.
