With the assistance and mentorship of our curatorial staff, Society volunteers and Council of Nova Scotia Archives, Archives Advisor, the Digitization Technician will digitize the early archival collection of the Society and re-assess the organization, documentation and digitization of the archival collection as a whole. Working alongside our staff and consultants, who possess over 50 years of direct, collective involvement with the Society archives and its acquisition, the incumbent will strive to harmonize and complete the digitization of the archival collection which has thus far been digitized on a project/theme basis only, making the archives more accessible to users. The Digitization Technician will also upload archival descriptions and appropriate links to the CNSA Archway website.

Reporting to the Curator and in accordance with the Collection Management Policy of the Museum, the duties of the Digitization Technician will include:

- scan, research and document the Museum’s early archival collection (Approximately 500 items consisting of photographs, textual materials, maps & plans and various oversize materials)
- assess existing digitization status and documentation of archival material
- develop a finding aid to allow more user friendly access to the digital archives
- develop and initiate a digitization program for future archival acquisitions
- load reference links into the CNSA Archways website

The successful candidate will provide proof of eligibility with an academic transcript. Desired qualifications/skills include:

- enrolled as a full-time student in a museum, archival, library or information technology studies or technician degree or certificate program, and returning to studies in September 2017
- genuine interest in handling/preserving of archival material
- experience within an archival institution considered an asset
- some knowledge of collections management issues and practices
- ability to work well with others – the documentation of these materials will be very much a collective effort
- excellent written communications skills
- experience using Microsoft Access
- experience using a collections database considered an asset
