The Owens Art Gallery at Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick, is seeking a recent graduate for its first Colville House Curatorial Internship. Working closely with the Director and the rest of the Owens’ curatorial team, the Intern will play a key role in the administration and delivery of programming linked to Colville House, a small house museum located in the historic home of one of Canada’s best-known visual artists—renowned magic realist painter Alex Colville. Interns with be given the opportunity to work on exhibition planning and design (online and in the gallery), curatorial writing, publication coordination, and public programming.
Candidates must have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution and have knowledge of contemporary museum and curatorial practices, ideally though study in a Fine Arts, Art History, or a Museums and Curatorial Studies program. Basic computer skills are required and a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications, particularly Photoshop, would be an asset, although the Owens can provide training and experience in these areas. Priority will be given to recent graduates of Mount Allison University.
This position is funded by the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage program and Mount Allison University. Applicants must be recent post-secondary graduates between the ages of 16 and 30, and Canadian citizens or permanent residents entitled to work in Canada. Non-Canadian students holding a temporary work visa or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible under the terms of the YCW program.
