Job description: The Heritage Interpreter/Confederation Researcher will be responsible for conducting research on the history of the Dory Shop Museum building and site in the era of Confederation in order to incorporate this information into the Dory Shop Museum tour. They will also conduct tours, answer the telephone, and carry out sales transactions, along with other duties as required.
Qualifications: Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills; proven research skills; service-oriented and enjoys working with the public; creative, resourceful and looks for ways to add value; strong computer skills; strong team player and also able to work well independently.

Shelburne is nestled on what is considered the third best natural deep-water harbour in the world. Shelburne boasts a historic waterfront with 33 original Loyalist homes, dating back to 1783, when more than 5000 United Empire Loyalists arrived in ships from New York City in that year. At that time, Shelburne was the fourth largest community in North America and the location of first free black settlement in Canada. Just over two hours from Halifax, Shelburne is surrounded by ocean, beaches, lakes and forest. It is a region very rich in history and has a thriving arts and culture community. It is also an area of high unemployment, with few opportunities for students to gain valuable skills through meaningful employment.
The Shelburne Historical Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Shelburne County Heritage. We oversee Shelburne’s Historic Waterfront – Museums by the Sea, which includes the Shelburne County Museum, the Dory Shop Museum and the Ross-Thomson House & Store Museum.
